Final Requirements

The following activities will help us prepare for your arrival and each has a unique deadline.  Please refer to the information below and do your absolute best to adhere to these deadlines.  Unless noted otherwise below, please feel free to contact the Pathway Scholars Program with questions.  

Final Transcripts 

The Office of Admissions and Recruitment must verify your bachelor's degree. Therefore, we require that you forward an official transcript from all other institutions where you were in degree-seeking status (associate, undergraduate, or graduate).

Please have the transcript(s) sent by email or regular mail to the address listed below. If you are graduating in the spring or summer semester, you should request the transcript after grades have posted and your degree is conferred. The transcript(s) must arrive no later than June 15, 2024.

Self-installation of Computer Software 

The curriculum is computerized to a large extent and the majority of your exams will be taken online; as a result, all students are required to own a laptop computer with a connection to the UArizona network and the internet.  If you are not able to purchase your laptop before arriving for Intro to Medical Studies (your first block), you should make alternative arrangements and/or contact us for assistance.  You will need to download and install most required software prior to arriving for your first day of classes. If you need any assistance after arriving, our IT staff will be available during Intro to Medical Studies at scheduled "Optional Computer Support" times.  Review the Tech Tools Manual for installation instructions and if you have any questions before arriving, contact the IT staff at pbc-itsupport@email.arizona.eduThe self-installation should be complete no later than the start of classes on July 8, 2024. 

Pathway Class of 2025 "Look Book"

The PSP "Look Book" is a digital collection of student-designed pages that serve as your introduction to the College of Medicine - Phoenix family and will be shared on the first day of Introduction to Medical Studies campus-wide. Each new student is invited to complete a creative page that helps us all understand who you are and what you do for fun. We encourage you to share photos of your family, friends, and pets; include important information like your name, birthplace, hobbies, etc. 

All submissions must be 8.5 x 11" portrait orientation and shared as a PDF. NOTE: Please have your name and a picture of yourself identifiable on the page. 

Email your completed page to comphx-pathway@arizona.edu with the subject line "[Your name] PSP Look Book Class of 2025" by June 30, 2024.

University of Arizona CatCard

The UArizona CatCard is the official University of Arizona identification card, required to show as proof of enrollment at our recreation facilities, some library services, and to show at local merchants that provide a discount to students. You will place the order for a CatCard during your onboarding and your UAccess account will be charged $25. Please contact the CatCard Office by June 30, 2024. Thank you!

Starting the program requires supplies, textbooks, and professional dress clothes; however, you are highly encouraged to read below to learn more and also meet and talk with current students for helpful tips, tricks, and advice.  Our community supports medical students in numerous generous ways, too!

Laptop

The curriculum is computerized to a large extent and the majority of your exams will be taken online and as a result, all students are required to own a laptop computer with a connection to the UArizona network and the internet.  Some students also utilize iPads or other handheld devices for note-taking. Refer to the Tech Tools intranet site to learn more about the required minimum laptop specifications and how to purchase a new laptop from the UArizona Bookstore.

Textbooks

A list of suggested textbooks will be provided along with the syllabus prior to each course. Pathway Scholars Students will be provided with complimentary copies of all required course materials and/or textbooks.  We recommend you do not purchase any of the optional textbooks until speaking with your Learning Specialist during Intro to Medical Studies.

On-campus Personal Storage and Showers

A personal locker is available to you on a first-come, first-serve basis to safely secure items that you may need to access during the day (extra tie, spare shoes, etc.).  You are responsible for providing your own lock and when prompted by Facilities Management to remove items for annual cleaning, you must adhere to the request or face the risk of losing unclaimed items.  Outdoor bicycle storage is available in two ways:  no-fee, open racks that requires your own lock are placed throughout campus and fee-based, secured, fenced storage facility is also available.  Lastly, shower facilities are available in the HSEB for your use.  You must provide your own towel.  More information will come from the Student Affairs team.

Clothing

The first block, Intro to Medical Studies, is your introduction to the profession of medicine, faculty, staff, and peers. As such, you should plan for professional dress during a significant portion of these weeks. You are also required to wear professional attire during Doctoring (beginning in August 2024) as well as classroom sessions that involve patients and more. There are a few items worth investing in before starting school: comfortable, closed-toe shoes, scrubs, and ties. Other professional attire:

Female identity/gender expression: Slacks/skirts with a blouse or dress.

Male identity/gender expression: Slacks with a shirt/tie is considered professional attire. No jacket is required.

Parking and Student Bus/Light Rail Permit

Students are eligible to purchase a Phoenix Biomedical Campus parking permit and public transportation pass through the University of Arizona Parking and Transportation Services (UA PTS). Parking permits and public transportation passes are sold to medical students during the first week of medical school, or as soon as the 2024-25 details become available, typically in early July. You will be alerted when the new rates for the PBC are available and we encourage you to visit UArizona PTS.  You can park in the garage at a daily rate or find on-street parking while you explore all parking options before making a permit purchase.
